Robert Hewson

Robert Hewson has been a military journalist and analyst for nearly 20 years, specialising in aerospace and systems technology. He took over the editor's chair at Jane's Air-Launched Weapons from his predecessor, Duncan Lennox, in 2001. Prior to that, he was the Editor of the renowned World Air Power Journal, before establishing his own consultancy firm for the aerospace industry. He has worked on a number of open-source and restricted projects, on behalf of leading defence concerns, and international armed forces. He is a regular contributor to several other Jane's titles and has also written widely on aviation, defence and industry topics — land, sea and air — in several languages. Robert has made a wide range of TV and radio appearances, both in the UK and elsewhere. He also has substantial experience of military aviation operations, flying in a wide range of service aircraft from combat helicopters to front-line fast jets. In 2007 he became the last civilian to fly in a Swedish Air Force Saab Viggen In 2009 Robert received the Royal Aeronautical Society Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for a Jane’s Defence Weekly news analysis piece that queried the costs of Norway’s proposed Joint Strike Fighter purchase. In 2010 he won the prize for the second year running, this time for another JDW news story on Pakistan’s UAV operations.
